A.C.C.E.S. for New Canadians

$65,000

A joint project by three metropolitan Toronto agencies: ACCES, COSTI, and Skills for Change, to build on their similarities and their unique difference for the purpose of working towards a more coordinated delivery of career counselling services to newcomers in Metropolitan Toronto.

Blake Boultbee Youth Outreach Service

$50,000

This unique youth organization provides support and services to high need youth in east Toronto. The grant provided support for general operations and the services of a fundraiser.

Boundless Adventures

$70,000

Grants sponsored a pilot project for at risk families with children and an Early Intervention Pilot Project for young children at risk, aged 2 to 6, and their families. In partnership with inner city community groups and children's mental health centres, 150 participants will participate in an outdoor based project designed to strengthen the parent/child relationship.

CBC Television

$90,000

This grant provides sponsorship for the CBC television series, Street Cents. This consumer/advocacy show is geared towards Canadian youth. Show topics include Money & Youth; Work!; Literacy; and Addiction & Habits.

Central Toronto Youth Services

$43,885

This grant funds the provision of counselling to young gay men and lesbians between the ages of 18 and 24.

Contact Point

$81,680

This grant ensures the on-going development and maintenance of a website for career counselling and the career development community in Canada. This includes providing access to on-line training, workshops and seminars; encouraging the further development of on-line access to resources; and becoming the primary information exchange source for the counsellor in training.

COSTI

$60,000

This grant in partnership with the Humber River Regional Hospital supports the Community Integration Program. This project provides vocational counselling and employment support program to mental health patients returning to the community.

Dalhousie University

$354,900

This grant supports the physical renovations of the Frank G. Lawson Career Information Centre as well as the hiring of a career counsellor to enhance access to and the quality of services to students and the Halifax Community.

Healthy Childhood Development Project

$175,000

The Healthy Childhood Development Project is operated by the Gerrard Resource Centre in partnership with Ryerson Early Childhood Education Program and the York North Family Resource Programmes. The project is premised on the view that in order to support the positive and healthy development of children, one needs to focus attention on children, their caregivers and the community at large.

 

Integra

$56,520

Grant monies support the training, consultation and supervision provided by Integra to the Social Work Department of the Toronto District School Board. Integra provides the training to teachers to deliver group counselling programs to special needs groups and supervise the first series of groups offered in participating schools.

Kensington Youth Theatre and Employment Skills (kytes)

$40,000

Funding provides a full-time position of career counsellor to street youth participating in the theatre, employment and lifeskills programming of kytes.

Learning Disabilities Association of Ontario

$10,000

Funding was used to prepare and distribute public awareness materials to assist in reaching individuals (and their families) who may be unaware of the existence and impact a learning disability is having on their life.

North Shore Crisis Services Society

$2,404

This grant facilitated the expansion of the hours of group programs and the provision of more hours per week of access to individual counselling for children in North Vancouver, B.C.

Oolagen

$133,872

The Foundation provides funds to support the counselling and mental health services provided at Marc Garneau High School. An additional grant supports the Wraparound Program, which targets street youth who are encouraged to create their own support group and provide Wraparound services to other street youth. A Wrap Around Program is also provided young people who wish to exit a lifestyle.

 

Parents In Transition

This grant funds the School of Young Clown Performers, which teaches students aged 14-18 who are in need of direction, self-esteem, achievement, recognition and appreciation of that which they have to offer.

 

Parry Sound High School

This grant funds the information technology education project of the Career Centre.

Sir Sandford Fleming College

$7,500

Students of Sir Sandford Fleming College Employment Counsellor Program received matching dollars to attend NATCON 99. An additional grant continued to fund the Cosgrave Award of $1,000 per year for five years. The Cosgrave Award (in honour of Gerald P. Cosgrave, the first Counselling Director of the Counselling Foundation of Canada) is presented to a first year student of the Career & Work Counsellor Program in recognition of the student's academic success and potential in an employment, career or work counselling profession.

Storefront for Voluntary Agencies

$5,000

Grant monies used to assist with the development of the Yellowknife affiliate of the national infrastructure "Youth Volunteer Corps". This organization provides youth with volunteer opportunities which provide career and life experiences, facilitate engagement in their community and encourage accomplishment and civic responsibility.

Streetlight Support Services

$106,500

The Foundation's grant supports the maintenance and expansion of Streetlight's cooperative model of service delivery, including a Computer training Program for Streetlight clients in partnership with Contact Point. Individual and group training is offered on a variety of software packages, as well as Internet and web site development training.

Tapestry House

$6,000

Grant facilitates access to fundraising and organizational development expertise.

The Hospital for Sick Children

$25,000

This grant supported the evaluation of the Brief Psychoeducational Parenting Groups funded by The Counselling Foundation of Canada.

The Theresa Group Child and Family Aid

$15,835

Financial assistance to provide support, education and counselling to children affected by HIV/AIDS, particularly, those with high risk behaviour problems.

Union of Ontario Indians

$100,000

Financial support was provided to support a multi-media Career Learning Program. The program has four components: (1) Website development, (2) Career Education Resource development, (3) Job title development, and (4) Practitioner training.

York North Family Resource Programmes

$37,000

This grant supports a project that encourages family resource centres to consider community economic development efforts and activities as part of the support offered to families in their respective communities.

York University - Institute on Achievement & Motivation

$35,000

This grant funded a review and report by the Institute of the efficacy of two approaches in helping at-risk youth: mentoring, and study skills program. An additional grant supports the Institute's work with at-risk students and their parents.

YMCA of Greater Toronto

$1,500,000

This grant is to enhance and accelerate the program development, research, and training opportunities associated with the YMCA Family Development Centre.
